While on the way to Darjeeling passing through Mirik , Pashupati Market , is a surprise element. It is situated at a distance of around 15 km from Mirik.
The entry gate to the market is through a Indo-Nepal check post which falls on the left side of the road.
A visitor needs to show his/her identity card to the security person on the post and enter into the Nepal side for the market.
There is no entry fee at the post to visit the other side.
What to buy from this market
If you are planning to buy Clothes , Perfumes , local handicrafts , electronic goods and other souvenirs , Pashupati Market of Mirik , is must place to be in. The reason is also because the stuffs are much cheaper than Darjeeling or Sikkim markets.
Even if you are not interested in going to the market you can check the shops located along the border post.
These shops also sell cheaper goods brought from the market.
Indian Taxi would not go to the Bazaar
To go this the Indo Nepalese border market you will need to quit your taxi on the Indian side and crossover by foot on the Nepal side.
From the other side you can take an auto rikshaw which will drop you to the market. The distance to the Pashupati Market from Checkpoint is approximately 2 Kilometers.
It will take around 15-20 minutes to reach the market from your original taxi drop point. So , be prepared to have at least an ‘extra hour’ in your hand for the shopping activities if you need to continue your journey towards Darjeeling from Mirik.
