Bollywood Hindi horror films were initially quite predictable. The demons had big teeth, giant outlook and made a growling sound. Most of these are attributed to the 80’s Ramsay era films. As time progressed the standard of our horror films got better. There are some horror films, which you cannot take the risk of watching alone.
Raat (1992)
Raat is regarded as one of the best horror films of Ramgopal Varma. In this film, a cat accidentally killed by the hands of the actress (Revati). The game of fear begins, thereafter.
No scary makeups but the film still manages to create scares at various scenes. After this movie, viewers will no longer see the cat from that point of view as seen before.
1920 (2008)
The film is about a scary castle unknown to the couples. A soul starts to haunt them when they began to live there.
Although some scene is inspired by the film ‘Exorcists’ the movie managed to get accolades from the critiques and viewers. Horror movie lovers will find this film quite scary in some parts.
Raaz (2002)
Bipasa Basu’s first taste of commercial success came with Raaz. The musical horror flick was a big hit of that year.
The film had some scenes lifted from ‘What Lies Beneath’ but that did not prevent the audience from going to theatres. A surprise element in the film kept the audience glued to the screen.
Ragini M.M.S (2011)
The film was inspired by ‘Paranormal Activity’.
A couple went to a farmhouse for a weekend. The girl is unaware that the house has hidden cameras set by the boyfriend to record the intimate moments. Little they know that the place is haunted.
Rajkummar Rao was noticed from the film.
Horror Story (2013)
Horror Story is another notable Hindi film in the fear genre. It tells the story of youngsters who decide to spend a night in a haunted hotel.
A series of fear and death that begins thereafter will lead you to jump off from your seats. The underrated movie inspired by’Grave Encounters’ is a spine chiller. The movie was not a big commercial success however worth watching.
Shapit (2010)
This film, which came out in 2010, was the story of a girl who is a victim of curse on her family. Aditya frees the girl from this curse.
The scenes of the film will make you believe in supernatural things. The film had a young star cast and impressive storyline.
Ek Thi Dayan(2013)
A magician asks a psychiatrist help to treat his hallucinations about his dead sister. If you believe that there is a witch in the world, then this film is definitely for you.
The scenes will strengthen your belief as well as will scare you a lot. And if you do not trust such things, then the film will make you believe in these beliefs.
Bhoot (2013)
This film of Ram Gopal Verma also will give you sleepless nights.
In the film, a couple move into a flat bought for a very low price. The flat was previously inhabited by a woman who had killed her son and committed suicide.
Foonk (2008)
When this film was released, Ramu claimed that if someone sees this film alone in the theatre, he will give him 5 lakh rupees. The film was quite scary and featured on the subject of black magic.
13 B (2009)
If you are a fan of horror films, then, of course, this film will not disappoint you. Like other horror films, it does not rely on camera angles and background scores.
Its script is so good that when you get out of the theatre, you will definitely feel scared.
